Background:

  • Sports Monitor is the original consensus service.  Established in 1980, Sports Monitor is the
oldest, largest and most respected consensus bureau in the nation. We monitor 80 of the best
and most famous high priced handicapping services in the country. Our members receive all the
plays from these major services just as if they subscribed to them directly. For those of you in
the market for a professional consensus service, Sports Monitor has no peer in the industry.
You will find many new consensus services on the internet but you will never encounter any
that are as reliable as Sports Monitor. Our competitors often dish out incomplete, inaccurate
and false information. Ultimately, false and late information will cost you money. We remain the
ONLY consensus service that has won national handicapping contests with our own Executive
Selections. You can rely on our information to be accurate, and delivered to you earlier than any
other consensus service. The membership fee for our services may be a bit more than the amateur
outfits that are getting into the game, but we guarantee you this…If you join us this season, you
will have your most informed year of all time.

 Tell me about Sports Monitor:

  • Our members enjoy all the plays that are released by every major sports information service in
the country. We also release our own “Executive Selections” which are the product of
  • our team of handicappers and our vast information database. We are the only consensus
service that has won national handicapping contests while competing against the nation’s
finest sports services. Our last competition was The Las Vegas Coast Casinos $1,000,000
"Pick the Pros" contest. More than 70,000 professional and amateur bettors were required
to make selections for every Sunday NFL event. Each contestant was allowed up to five
entries. We entered the maximum, five entries. We had four entries finish within the top
eight places including a third place finish, just two wins behind the champion who won
$300,000. The winner had 177 wins and 65 losses. Our best ticket was 175-67.
How long have you been in business?
This is our 30th year. We release information for NFL and College Football, College and
NBA Basketball through the college championship game in April,  We have won national
handicapping contests in every major sport. We are proud to have been the first
professional handicapping service to have an internet presence.
How is your information available?
The easiest and most efficient method to enjoy our service is via email. We deliver
our reports directly to our members, eliminating the need to constantly be in front
of a computer. Technology has reached the point where email can be retrieved
through any number of devices nearly everyone has. I.E.: cell phones, blackberry,
pda's and a plethora of smart phones and other devices. Even the simplest phone
has email capabilities. No need to constantly refresh a web page to see if it has
been updated. In most cases whether you are using your computer or a hand held
device, you are notified by a beep or some other sound or image of your choosing
informing you an email has arrived.

What do I get when I subscribe?
Our members receive paid membership plays from more than 80 major services across
the nation. They also receive our own rated Executive Selections. Our members also have
access to our Top Service Report and our Five Year Historical Database. Our database is
the only one of its kind. We break down the sports services with categories such as
NFL/College results and  the performance of services top plays and games of the year.
We are the only consensus service that informs their members how the best services have
performed against the pointspread year-by-year. This tool is essential when deciding on
which services are the most dependable. You will also be able to consult with our
knowledgeable staff for advice on the best way to win with our unique service.
Why is Sports Monitor better than other sports services?
There are many very good sports services that have proven to be consistent winners.
We know who they are and we buy them for you. It can cost $2000-$5000 to join
just one major sports service. When you join a single service, you are usually stuck
with them for the season. Few services ever succeed in both College and Pro Football
or basketball. Our members enjoy the advice of the best College Football services on
Saturday and then turn to the finest NFL handicappers on Sunday. Basketball is of
course a daily affair. When choosing where to place your wagers, more advice and
reliable information gives you a huge advantage. We offer a significant value to our
members. Our price is less than the price of just one major service. You'll also have
the luxury of knowing what the honest past performances of the services actually are.
What makes you different from other consensus services?
  • Professionalism. This is what we do and we have done it well for over three decades.
We have always been the original source for sports service information.  It is a fact
that many other sports services actually subscribe to us in order to keep an eye on their
competitors. Our members can be assured that they will receive all the plays from all
the services accurately, completely and more reliably than from any one else. Many
other people have entered the consensus service industry and most fail within a year.
Recently, many discount services have appeared on the internet. This new breed is
the most dangerous type of service to the consumer. They ask for minimal membership
fees while claiming to be a professional operation. These outfits routinely post their
information as much as many hours later than we do. Nearly all of these are amateurs who
have a day job elsewhere and show up at game time and then “chase down” information.
Many of the new breed internet services join our service, log on as our member, and
then post our information to their site. We routinely cut off these fly by night entrepreneurs.
What time of the day will the member’s picks be posted?
During the football season, we release our first report on the night before at 7pm central time.
This report will have the plays from about 40 major services that release early. This
overnight report gets you off to a great head start with your Football handicapping. We resume
releasing Football first thing the following morning and it takes about 90 minutes to post all the
service’s plays as they open up and release their plays. Most services are reported to our
members no later than two hours prior to the early kickoffs.
What about chat forums?
  • Chat and posting forums are becoming increasingly popular to sports bettors. Many forums
are ripe with people who insist on posting their opinions and even the plays from major sports
services. We have seen every major handicapping forum and we take time to look in on
them from time to time. We are constantly surprised at the reckless dissemination of sports
service information. These posting forums are routinely visited by people who intentionally
post the wrong plays that major services released. If you do not know that your source is
honest and reliable, chances are, it will cost you money. There is an old saying that says,
“If you get something free, it will probably wind up costing you more than you paid for it.”
How can I find out how the handicappers you monitor are performing?
  • One of the most valuable tools we have is our multi-year and weekly reports. Each week,
we update our members on which sports services are doing the best against the pointspread.
We do so in an honest way using the accurate pointspread for each sporting event. Our
members can tap into this database and follow the nations best performing services each
day. You will find our current top performing services at our website. The report that
our members can access is more thorough than any report you may find elsewhere.
It includes the in-depth breakdown of every service we monitor. Our honest pointspread
reports are the key to knowing which sports services will give you the best opportunity to
winning each day. We strongly encourage our members to trust in our 30 years of
handicapping service and the reports that have been accurately generated.
Is customer support available?
We monitor our email 24 hours a day and will answer any questions one may
have about anything in the sports handicapping world or to process memberships
via email. Our customer service is another of the many ways that put us on a higher
plain than the new breed amateurs. Many of the part-time internet services do not
    even have customer service.
What are your rates?
The membership fee for the 2009 Football and Basketball Season starts
at $695 and is reduced as the season progresses. This gives you service through the
Superbowl or NCAA championship averaging out to only $25 per week for all the plays
from every reliable major handicapping service in the nation!
    When you join us, you
can rely that the information you get will be accurate and professionally distributed to
you. For a list of the services we will be monitoring this season, click HERE. The best

MOST RECENT Q & A POSTED HERE:

Q:
If Joe Michaels is the handicapper for both Sports Monitor's Executive Selections and Joe Michaels Personal Best, What's the difference between the two?

GOOD QUESTION!

A: " Seems like a reasonable question to ask." However, there is just as reasonable an answer I'm sure will satisfy the inquiries.
The short answer is "two different handicapping methods........"Sports Monitor's Executive Selections" are weighted more towards an objective type handicapping method. All of the typical conservative stats as they apply to the sport in question are used.......win/loss, home/away, night/day, points scored for and against, offensive/defensive rankings, rushing/passing yards, turnover ratios, conference/non conference, recent/historical numbers, left handed/right handed, grass/turf, weather, venue and a host of other statistics all contributing in varying degrees to an end result we call a power rating. The database is constantly being adjusted, tweaked if you will as the seasons progress and circumstances change. Now, anyone can crunch numbers, it's how those numbers are perceived and the weight given to certain stats is one reason why some cappers are on one side of a contest and some on the other. The key to our success is how our own database interprets the numbers. We have incorporated a proprietary method resulting in a percent advantage one team has over another. We begin with specific criteria to even consider a game for release. The higher the advantage the higher the star rating for a given event. It is all much more complex involving input from many years of experience and practical application that will remain private. In any case I think you get the picture.

"Joe Michaels Personal Best" plays on the other hand
are weighted more towards a subjective type handicapping method. It begins with much of the same routine as described above. However in this case to use a variation of the common real estate motto "information, information, information" is the key element. Along with trends, angles, revenge, team chemistry etc. Contacts with coaches, players and management. All used to extract information. Where were the players the night before? Any glitches in their travel arrangements? Did they or do they fly commercial? Charter or have their own team plane? Did they have to take a long bus ride? Are we talking about millionaire athletes or college kids? Is this an important game or just a routine engagement. How does an injury affect the score or outcome. A couple of examples I've used in the past; When Michael Jordan was out of a game in the Bulls heyday. The knee jerk reaction was to focus on the under since Jordan wasn't their to score points. Many interested parties including the lines makers didn't give enough credit to Michaels' defensive abilities. Not only was he a great scorer, he was one of the best defensive players. Losing his defense it turns out often had more of an effect on the total to go over than the common tendency to focus on the no Jordan take the under mentality. Is a team traveling to play after or on a major holiday? Do we have a 20+ point favorite playing a military academy. Some very interesting plays developed in the earlier parts of our country at war. Teams/Coach's had no taste for running up the score once the game was in little doubt. The play got even better when the big favored team's coach had a history of not running up scores. After all who really wants to beat up on or embarrass kids that may be going to war after the season and may not return? I have a whole book on these type situations I've developed over the years. I have my own line analysis theory tracking the spread evolution from the opening number to various points up until game time. Many situations become available that the current line has not adjusted for. NFL teams in the mind set they just have to walk on the field and the game is over. It is no concern of theirs they have to win by 10.5 or 14 points for their backers to cash a ticket. Once again information! Having the ability to get it, use it and profit from it. I hope we can put this question to rest. In any case I think you get the picture.

As the saying goes "It's a tough way to make an easy living!"

Q:  What is the difference between a sports service also referred to as a late telephone service (LTS) and a sports information provider?

A: The short answer:  A sports service or LTS markets and provides rated picks for a fee.
A sports information provider as it applies to our involvement delivers various forms of data for those who wish to succeed wagering on sporting events.
Check back soon for a detailed response and some history of the sports service industry.

Best of luck
